Client A1 (GOM) (Revised Fault Pick Prevents Kick, Stuck Pipe, & Sidetrack)
- Within 6 hours of reviewing data, worked w/ project's multi-disciplined
team to prevent kick and stuck pipe by modifying proposed pick of seismic fault cut in ongoing
Jack U p well's directional wellbore.
Savings ($3M) 120 times ILCA cost
Client A-2(GOM) (Revised Seismic Re-calibration Prevents Kick, Extra Csg String)
- Within 2 days, while working w/ Deep Water (DW) team (drilling engineers,
geophysicist, and geologist), identified that seismic pore pressure predictions required re-calibration
and then modified DW casing program, thus preventing a kick and eliminating one casing string.
Savings ($5M) 200 times ILCA cost
Client A-3 (Africa) (Practices Prevents Drilling Rig - Facilities Clash)
- Within 2 days of learning of impending Facilities-DW rig clash, recommended,
and four weeks later with no upsets, successfully installed SS Christmas Tree, a first for the
region, client and the contracted multi-purpose service vessel (MPSV).
Savings ($5M) 240 times ILCA cost
Client A 4 (Central America) (Practices Eliminate Csg String)
- Within 5 hours of completing prespud analysis, recommended drilling practices
that resulted in one less string being set.
Savings ($3M) 120 times ILCA cost
Client A 5 (Worldwide) (ILCA Redefines Project BOD)
- Within 2 weeks of reviewing Life Cycle data, recommended changes to BOD that
resulted in reorientation of the well paths, recognition of tectonically stressed formations
requiring Managed Pressure Drlg (MPD), the need to frac producers, and the casing of all horizontals
for frac and waterflood conformance control.
Savings ($400M) 1000 times ILCA cost
- DW exploration wells planned using site specific, seismic based rock properties predictions and
drilled w/ no well control problems or attendant stuck pipe or sidetracks.
(Project enhanced by min of $10 million) SPE Paper 74487
- DW well plugged back, sidetracked, & completed in new fault block restoring production of 120mmcfpd using a
Dynamically Positioned Drillship that had never performed a DW SS completion plus utilized a GOM DW first one trip,
71 deg, perforate & frac pack system.
(Project enhanced by $6 million) SPE Paper 97147
- W/ 4 days notice Plug back, sidetracked, & completed another DW SS well using equipment borrowed from other operators.
Project savings of $4 million
- Developed industry first concepts & practices for high flex joint operations and confirming BHP through managed pressured techniques.
Project savings of $4-8 million World Oil Article, July 2006
